Michael Gass, retired president and chief executive officer of United Launch Alliance (ULA), will serve a two-year term as co-chair of the CSC, joining current co-chairs Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne, Colorado’s 49th Lieutenant Governor and Chief Operating Officer, and G. Thomas Marsh, retired executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems.
Gass was the principal who created ULA, the joint venture company between Lockheed Martin Space Systems and Boeing Defense, Space and Security, and provided the leadership during the first eight years of outstanding company performance.
Before joining ULA, Gass served as vice president and general manager of Space Transportation for Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company, where he was responsible for the Atlas, Titan, missile defense, advanced space transportation product lines, and all space launch activity.
“I am proud to be part of the Metro Denver EDC to help grow our aerospace economy that has such an extraordinary heritage here in Colorado,” said Gass.
Gass attended the Sloan Fellows Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a Master’s Degree in Management. He also graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. Gass serves on the Board of Directors for XCOR Aerospace, was the Mile High United Way Campaign Chair in 2004, and has been a long-time member of the Tocqueville Society.
As Gass joins the CSC leadership, Major General Andy Love will complete his term. Gen. Love was one of the founders of the CSC, and was instrumental in helping Colorado’s space industry grow to become the second largest in the nation through the CSC’s industry retention and expansion efforts, marketing initiatives, and legislative advocacy. Under Gen. Love’s leadership, the CSC has expanded to include more than 70 representatives from aerospace companies and suppliers, support organizations, universities and research centers, and economic development agencies.
“We are grateful to General Andy Love for his passion, vision, and the outstanding leadership he has shared with the Colorado Space Coalition,” said J. J. Ament, CEO of the Metro Denver EDC. “As we continue to support and further grow Colorado’s aerospace industry, it is an honor to welcome Michael Gass as the CSC’s new co-chair. Michael brings a wealth of industry leadership, knowledge and expertise that we know will be invaluable in advancing the CSC’s mission.”
