Metro Denver EDC and regional partners hosting national site selection consultants

Nine national site selection consultants will visit Metro Denver this week for a familiarization tour hosted by the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation (Metro Denver EDC) and its economic development partners throughout the nine-county region.

The annual Metro Denver Site Selection Conference, taking place Sept. 14-18, 2016, is one of the Metro Denver EDC's most effective strategies for marketing Metro Denver's business attributes to site selectors and corporate real estate professionals, the key advisors to Fortune 1000 companies in corporate relocations and expansions that bring new jobs and investment to our region.

“By exposing the site selectors to the factors that make Metro Denver a standout for corporate expansion—diversified and growing industries, significant infrastructure development, and robust job growth—Metro Denver will be top-of-mind in today’s competitive economic development landscape,” said Tom Clark, CEO of the Metro Denver EDC. “This annual event is our most successful company attraction tactic, with 14,000 net new jobs and more than $545 million in net new investment coming to the region over the past five years alone as a result of consultants attending the conference.”

The region’s economic development partners and business leaders will tour the visiting consultants throughout Metro Denver to shine a spotlight on Metro Denver’s innovative companies and industries, workforce, commercial developments, and infrastructure expansion.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper will be first on the site consultant’s agenda, hosting a private meeting with the site selectors to share the advantages of doing business in Colorado. Metro Denver EDC CEO Tom Clark will deliver a regional briefing and later, the site selectors will dine with the conference’s host committee at the Rhein Haus in LoDo.

Activities on the site selectors' agenda on Thursday, Sept. 15 include:

  • Breakfast and innovation panel roundtable at DaVita’s world headquarters near Union Station with executives from Sharklet Techologies, Johns Manville, and Prescient.
  • helicopter tour of the region, showcasing light-rail expansion, real estate developments, federal laboratories, and major employment centers.
  • A discussion with industry leaders from Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp., Google-Boulder, and Woodward Inc., in addition to students from Skyline STEM Academy at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics in Boulder. Workforce will be the afternoon topic at Charles Schwab’s Lone Tree Campus, with representatives from Arapahoe/Douglas Works!, the University of Colorado South Denver, the University of Denver, and Comcast Cable sharing updates on talent development and attraction in the region.
  • A reception and dinner at the Denver Art Museum with area industry and business leaders.

The site selectors will participate in a breakfast panel discussion at the conference's final event, Making the Cut: Factors Driving Today's Site Selection Decisions, on Friday, Sept. 16, at the Grand Hyatt Denver, 1750 Welton Street. The consultants will share their impressions of Metro Denver and advice in today’s competitive economic development landscape with 450 attendees (note, the event is sold out).
