The Colorado Space Coalition (CSC) today launched its newly retooled website, www.spacecolorado.org at the 32nd Space Symposium, April 11-14 in Colorado Springs, the premier gathering of the global space community.
The site brands Colorado as a leading space state that is “A Mile Closer to Space” due to several mission critical factors. The state is home to leading contractors and suppliers, vital space military centers, several research universities and federal laboratories, and talent to propel the industry—notably the nation’s second-most highly educated workforce.
In fact, Colorado is the nation’s No. 2 aerospace economy, up from third in the previous year, with 25,120 private aerospace workers. Altogether, the industry creates a $3.2 billion annual payroll.
“When it comes to value and future potential, Colorado’s aerospace industry is a huge economic driver in our state,” said Tom Clark, CEO of the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation, which staffs the CSC.
The spacecolorado.org website touts major projects led by Colorado companies, including the recent announcement of NASA choosing Sierra Nevada Space System’s Dream Chaser spacecraft for a multiyear contract to provide cargo delivery, return, and disposal services for the International Space Station.
Another project crucial to the United States’ competitiveness in space—the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle—is designed by Lockheed Martin Space Systems to take human explorers to destinations beyond low Earth orbit, such as the moon, asteroids, and eventually to Mars.
The CSC site also includes a searchable directory of 400+ companies and suppliers doing business in the state as well as breaking industry news and comprehensive industry data.
