DigitalGlobe wins Colorado Photonics Company of the Year

The Colorado Photonics Industry Association (CPIA) announced that it has named DigitalGlobe as the 2009 Colorado Photonics Company of the Year. The award goes to a company or institution that has contributed the most to the Colorado photonics industry. This year’s winner, DigitalGlobe, is a world-imagery products and services company, founded in 1993 and with three successful satellites currently in orbit. DigitalGlobe was selected from more than 240 companies in the aerospace, renewable energy, defense, security, medical, biotech, telecommunications, and electronics industries, which are involved in photonics, or light-based, technologies. On October 8, 2009, DigitalGlobe launched its third high-resolution satellite, WorldView-2, the only commercially available high-resolution, eight-band multispectral satellite.

"We are very pleased to have been chosen as the Colorado Photonics Company of the Year,” said Neal Anderson, vice president of space systems at DigitalGlobe. “With the successful launch of WorldView-2, DigitalGlobe is the only commercial world-imagery provider with high-resolution, eight-band multispectral capability. We are looking forward to continued growth and innovation in 2010 and beyond.”

“DigitalGlobe has shown excellent growth and innovation in the digital imagery market,” said David Giltner, President of CPIA. “The recent launch of the company’s third high-resolution satellite, WorldView-2, highlights the success of DigitalGlobe as well as the high tech environment in Colorado that supports companies like DigitalGlobe.”
